Following Hurricane Dora in 1964, President Lyndon Johnson had rocks placed all along the St. Simons Island beaches as erosion control.

John Simmons has photographed the southeastern US for decades. He specializes in large format photography using cameras such as Speed Graphics and Sinars. Nikon cameras capture his digital images. He studied music at Georgia State University and Berklee and currently plays trombone, bass trombone, and tuba with the Coastal Brass Choir, the St. Simons Presbyterian Church Chancel Wind Ensemble, the Chamber Orchestra, and the Golden Isles Community Band.
